Woodturning Art Studio
Woodturning as a Sculptural Practice
With this website, I aim to share my work as a woodturner, grounded from the outset in the idea that the practice of a craft is the only true path toward art.
Woodturning is an ancient craft, now on the brink of disappearance.
Traditionally regarded as a subsidiary branch of carpentry, today it stands much closer to art—or what is increasingly referred to as contemporary craftsmanship—than it did decades ago.
In the workshops of contemporary woodturners, remarkable pieces are created—objects that can, in themselves, become distinct sculptural languages. This is precisely my goal: through the practice of woodturning and continuous learning, I will share on this website the results of my experience, understanding woodturning as a sculptural practice.
I aspire to place my work in the homes of those who appreciate the transformation of a humble piece of wood into objects—sometimes functional, sometimes contemplative, often both—that bring a certain magic to the spaces they inhabit.
There is something truly incomparable in the experience of a finely turned wooden piece: the pleasure of touching it, following the unpredictable flow of its grain, tracing its form with the fingertips, exploring its curves and recesses, observing it under natural or artificial light. The quiet wonder that accompanies its creation—surrounded by flying shavings as the wood spins and the gouge carves its shape—is a process I wish to share. It is something that deserves to be shared.
Each piece is unique. Even two objects turned from the same tree, the same branch, or the same discarded fragment of wood—worked with the same technique—will inevitably differ from one another.
I call my workshop a Woodturning Art Studio because I envision it as a creative space for dialogue with other turners, carvers, and sculptors—a place where we learn from one another. For this reason, one section of this website will be dedicated, like an art gallery, to Collaborating Artists: a space where fellow artists can present their work and share their creative processes, allowing us to explore together the many ways of approaching this practice.
This is only the beginning. This is not a finished or closed space—quite the opposite. It is the start of a journey in which wood, and the art of transforming it, lie at the very center.
This place is intended for individuals and institutions—interior designers, architects, audiovisual producers, restaurateurs, and lovers of art and craftsmanship—who value the knowledge and skill of this noble and ancient craft.
I remain a lifelong learner, yet deeply in love with this art since discovering it at Alberto Fernández’s School of Woodturners, ConTornos, in Santa Cristina de la Polvorosa (Zamora, Spain). That is where I come from.
